This was the title of an email that I received today, “How Badly Do You Want Freedom? It was interesting to me that as I read that title and then proceeded to read the rest of the email. I noticed that this wonderful person was trying to sell me her opportunity. Then I boldly thought to myself, “The last time I checked slavery has been over years!” Then I thought to myself what is it that make people feel like they’re trapped? Why do people feel as if they’re not free, especially, when no one is forcing us to do ANYTHING AT ALL. If you don’t want to go to work, you don’t have to. If you don’t want to live in a house, you don’t have to? If you don’t want to drive a car, you don’t have to. We really don’t have to do any of these things.
People Feel Trapped by the Simple Cost of Living
Then it dawned on me that people are trapped by the simple COST OF LIVING. The bare necessities of life are keeping people stuck in jobs they hate, living with people they can’t stand, eating cheap food and wearing cheap clothes. Isn’t that interesting?
Think about it. It does actually costs money to live. You need a roof over your head, lights, gas, phone, food, etc and these are the bare essentials. And unless you are extremely self sufficient, you won’t be able to have any of these things without income. We need income to supply us with the things we need and not to mention the things we want. So what does the average person do? Right. They go out and get a job. But not just any old job. We go out and get a GOOD JOB. Well, most of the time it’s after we’ve done a few other things like go to school, then go to college.
This is what they have called the American Dream. But the so-called American Dream has turned into a night mare for many people. Especially in light of the fact that many folks have gone into debt (student load debt) to try to position themselves for that so-called “good” job.
Okay. I am ranting. So let’s get back to the question. What do people want to be free from? Well, I’ll tell you. They want to be free from:
- Jack ass bosses
- Student Loan Debt
- Credit Card Debt
- Mortgage Payments
- Car Notes
- Getting Up When they don’t feel like it.
- Time Clocks
- 1 Hour Lunch Breaks
- Spouses they can’t stand (but are stuck with because they can’t afford to leave)
And the list goes on and on. But the answer is not always entrepreneurship. Sometimes the answer is finding a career instead of a job. It may mean that you still work for someone else, but at least you’re doing what you love. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. Truth be told, most people don’t have the discipline to be an entrepreneur. Because often times what happens is you end up being a slave to your business versus being a slave to your job. But the difference is that those who love what they do can work on their passion all night and hop right out of bed the next day and get right back on the saddle because they love what they do.
And that’s the real key to freedom…finding something that you love to do. Because when you do what you love, work becomes play. Then the next thing you should attempt to do is to get the monkey off of your back or in other words, GET OUT OF DEBT. This will give you a real since of relief when you can honestly say that you don’t owe anyone anything.
So, at the end of the day, when you want to get rid of those things that you feel are keeping you in bondage bad enough, then you will do something to change that. And you are already FREE to make that change. If anyone never told you before, I’m telling you now…You’re FREE to change ANY situation that you find yourself in. So the question becomes, How Badly Do you Want To Exercise Your Freedom?
